It all began one night in 2004, when the founder was making tacos for his kids. He decided
to heat up a corn tortilla and threw it into the microwave for one minute. When he opened the microwave door, he discovered the tortilla, stuck to the glass turntable. Thinking he overcooked and ruined the tortilla, he pried it off and took a bite. To his surprise it was crunchy and tasted like a corn chip! This “mistake” began his mission to perfect fast, crunchy taco shells made in the
microwave without the oil and mess. He launched a long series of experiments that
included folding paper plates into A-frame shapes, torching plastic containers into taco-
shaped molds, and countless tortillas ...
He also attempted numerous different designs, began working closely with USA material manufacturers, and injection mold companies. It was important for him that his taco shell form to be BPA free, cool to the touch, odorless, and made in the USA.
Until then, the only way to make crunchy taco shells was to pan fry a tortilla or bake them in the oven. This long and messy process not only took extra time, messy to clean up, but the oil added a lot of unnecessary calories.
Those days are now over through the founder’s determination to make his kids, family and friends the ultimate crunchy taco in the microwave…The Taco Tastico was born!
